Welcome to our Nursery and Reception team at St Wilfrid’s.

Our Reception team are: Mrs J Peters, Miss K Swinburn, Mrs F Cameron and Miss Sally-Anne McCole
Our bright, welcoming and stimulating learning environments in both Nursery and Reception reflect our ethos. We consider our EYFS unit to be a very special place where children feel happy, secure and valued. In an environment such as this, children develop confidence, a range of skills (life-long), and a love of learning – the perfect foundations for entering school life. Christian values are at the heart of all that we do and the themes of friendship, endurance, thankfulness run throughout our busy days.
A typical day in EYFS starts with our open door policy where you as parents or carers are invited into our setting with your child. This is an opportunity for you to carry out a learning activity with your child or share information about your child with the teacher or key worker. We value our strong relationships with parents and families.
We teach a range of carpet sessions through the day followed by focussed group activities (indoor and outdoor). In between these times, your child will be encouraged to carry out independent learning in our ‘Continuous Provision’ areas. In these areas, we provide a range of well-planned, purposeful and stimulating resources to promote fun, challenging and child-led learning experiences.
Our curriculum is tailored to our children’s interests and needs therefore is flexible and varied, and, as a result, our children are engaged and enthused.
Nursery Intake Information
For Nursery, we offer the full 30 hours (full time) and fifteen hours of weekly provision provided free by the Government. The 15 hours is available as a split week (Mon morning to Wednesday lunchtime or Wednesday lunchtime to Friday afternoon). You are also offered the chance to pay a ‘top up’ fee should you wish your child to attend additional sessions.
If you require further information, we have information packs which can be sent out on request. Alternatively, make an appointment to pop in and see us – we would love to show you around.
Most of our learning is through play which is an integral part of Nursery and therefore learning is fun. All this involves team work including the tremendous support received from colleagues and parents. Mrs Hope and Mrs Lovatt truly believe that children can do anything they aspire to and to do that they need the right environment and encouragement.
