Upper Key Stage 2

Hello and welcome to Upper Key Stage 2.  I am Mr Goodwin and am Upper Key Stage 2 Phase Leader, with responsibility for leading mathematics across the school.  In my team we have Miss Bartlett; Year 5/6 teacher and Miss Clark, our Year 5 teacher, with myself teaching Year 6.  Supporting the three classes, we also have Mrs Lowe who is our teaching assistant. In Year 6, we take great pride in being one of the top classes in the school. Consequently, we have a responsibility to set a very good example to all other year groups both in our work ethic and our behaviour. We aim to work both cooperatively and independently to achieve the best we can, always stretching ourselves to aim higher. Along with the children’s prefect roles, comes the responsibility of presenting themselves as exemplary pupils who understand the value of good behaviour and manners. We also like to put as much effort into having fun and enjoying all the amazing opportunities that Year 6 has to offer.  This year we can look forward to our residential in the summer term for Year 6,  Bikeability and the the Year Six production in July and all the events leading up to our final weeks at St Wilfrid's. It’s going to be a fantastic year.

For Year 5, the children can also look forward to their residential in the summer term, visiting local areas in Northenden to develop their history project of the local area in WW1.   As pupils spend the next year in Year 5, I hope you will see pupils develop their confidence, resilience and their love of learning.

Year 5: Meeting Age Related Expectations

If you would like to know more about what your child needs to achieve by the end of Year 5 for reading, writing, maths and Science, this can be found under the heading of Year 5 Statements, at the bottom of this page.  Curriculum statements, outline what is to be taught in the curriculum areas.  We see this as an important opportunity for you to support your child’s learning.

Year 6: Meeting Age Related Expectations

If you would like to know more about what your child needs to achieve by the end of Year 6 for reading, writing, maths and Science, this can be found under the heading of Year 6 Statements, at the bottom of this page.  Curriculum statements, outline what is to be taught in the curriculum areas.  We see this as an important opportunity for you to support your child’s learning.

Assessing Attainment

Assessing children’s attainment in maths, reading, writing and Science in all Years is against a set of skills which are known as Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).   There are sets of KPI’s for all year groups and at the end of the school year your child’s class teacher will analyse the attainment and progress made by your child against every KPI so that they can award them an overall Grade.   The KPI's in the statements are highlighted in BOLD

Please see the links below on the Year 5 and Year 6 Statements to view relevant KPIs for your child.
